lyrics
Strike a match and light the fire
Burn what is left of the day
All those places, all those faces
Up in smoke
In dreams we will find
The source of the Nile
Cassandra turns away from the mirror
Looking for an equal position
She says why?
Why do we find only strangers
When we’re looking for ourselves?
She is the harmonious unity
Of mind, form and energy
I’m on a strange journey
If we do nothing they'll assume that it's ok
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
Strangers will come
Strangers will go
Strum the negative emotions
To the ceaseless banging of their golden hammer
They’ll bind us to their banner
With dumb jewels that win the mind
I’m on a Strange journey
From this relative position
I can see an infinite number of parallel lines
Abstract space
The hidden dimension
We make it as far as the seventh star
Lost in space and time
Cassandra says did you see that too?
What are we going to do?

A tantalising glimpse of what Lush could have been if they hadn't been derailed by the Britpop sound in the mid 90s.

I always love Nicky Wire's lyrics - their wisdom, wit, sadness, and rebellion. Wire ages almost painfully gracefully. This particular song feels like it was written for me (it probably wasn't) because of some letters and art I sent or tried to send Wire a long time ago when I was in a mental health crisis. In any case, it seems to be about someone who had the stupid and embarrassing experience of loving a famous stranger they know only from their art. richeychthonic
